Dive the PINNACLE - AT NIGHT!!!

Dive Timor have finally found a spot to leave their boat in the water over night which means that for the next two months the Pinnacle Night dives are on again!

Departing at 6.15pm on Wednesdays (or by demand) you can have you gear sorted the night before, placed on the boat and waiting for you when you finish work!!!

Experience the sunset over Dili harbour as we glide across clear seas to descend onto what is one of Timor's most magical sight.

Things to expect...Schools of Barracuda, Reef Sharks, Large and small turtles and Timor's largest Moray eel (still to be named!)

Contact DTL on 7237092 to book your spot.

Dive BIG FISH

Its that time of year again that the water is teeming with large pelagics, dolphins and whales. And all the old time Timor divers are requesting to be taken on a day diving to BIG FISH - Atauro Island.

For those that don't know, big fish is one of Timor's best dives for current and a large amount of Big fish - funny enough. Last dive was a week ago with the Abyss Dive shop tour from Sydney Australia. Well it put on a treat with over 2000 barracuda, several large dog tooth tuna, sharks, turtles and mix of other larger than life fishes.

If your interested in diving big fish in the next two months please contact our staff and put your name down. We only take divers that are experienced and that have dived with us before!

Remember to bring your passports as the currents can take you to either Australia, Indonesia or PNG!!!

Dont forget to do your safety stop!!!!

DTL Dive Club

Many thanks to Richard Willan, who gave us a fascinating presentation on Nudibranches. The coloured dots on the skirts as can be seen on the Hypselodoris infucata below are poisonous. Apparently if you lick them, they taste like sulphur, yuck!

Also thier bum is in the middle of thier breathing apparatus. Sometimes macro can be a bit too close!
Not sure how we can top that this month!

International Beach Clean Up Day

Dive Timor Lorosae 'Splashed for Trash' with The Quality International School Dili and Dili International School. Starting from the Ocean View hotel, over 50 volunteers donned thier rubber gloves, grabbed thier plastic sacks and cleaned up the beach and the surrounding waters. Collecting hundreds of plastic bottles and plastic bags in thier own time, we thought we would give them a bit of a treat awarding prizes for the most unusual pieces of trash. These were a radio, a car bumper and a welding mask!

All ages and nationalites were involved including some very eager Timorese teenagers. We managed to fill 46 large bags full of rubbish before the midday sun got the better of us. All of which will be disposed of for free by Anteater, thank you.

And it wasn't just on the beach, some of our enthusiastic divers went down to clean up the reef. They brought up plastic sheeting, loads of shoes and a hat! Shoes were one of the most common thing collected today.

So thanks to everyone who took part, it was a great day and hopefully we will be able to make it an annual event. Lets make clean water in Timor Leste a reality

2008 and a new year for Diving and East TImor

2008 is here

and most people have or are returning from their family holidays from all corners of the world. East Timor looks set for a great year of diving! Currenlty we are still in the middle of the wet season and vis is best expected at 10m along the shore dives.

Those lucky enough to get to Atauro Island can expect better vis up to 25m.

DTL has a new dive team line up with Volker Katzung (German) returning for another season as manager and Mark Mialszygrosz (Australian) returning after being MIA in Australia for a few years. Also returning part time is Rui (Portuguese) and Maartin (Dutch) allowing DTL to cover courses in English, German, Portuguese and Dutch.

Martin (our Dive master in training) is 3/4 finished and will be helping out at the dive centre for the first 1/4 of the year.

New and Inproved

our new dive office and shop is up and running with some great deals on all diving equipmet and snorkelling equipment. And our court yard area should be finished within a few weeks (Timor Time...)

The shop has just recieved new stock including SUUNTO dive computers D6 and D9's along with a new range of fins and masks.

Remember if you have not used your regs for a while this time of year is perfect for and inspection and service. DTL offers full inspections for 20USD during Febuary 2008 so take advantage.

Dive Courses

Wet season is a great chance to join one of our Advanced Open Water Courses. Improve your skills and explore new fields in diving. Courses start daily and are run to fit your busy life styles. Contact DTL for details.

Enough writing for now...its time to get wet and go for a dive!
